There will be a phase 2 trial for 3 drugs. One is a polymerase inhibitor, one a protease inhibitor, and the other is called Danoprevir. It's a drug used in HIV and put with these two other drugs it boosts their efficacy and makes the two PI's not need (drumroll please....) interferon or ribavirin. In early trials 100% of treatment naive, relapsers and null responders had between a 4 and 5 log drop in 14 days. It was the same response in all patients across ALL genotypes. I found a doc who is actually a liver transplant surgeon who said he was very interested in being one of the investigators. I put him in touch with the Roche/Genentech people and he is going to do the trial. And, he said I can be his first guinea pig....well he didn't use those words, but I did. So, I am hoping that there will be no glitches, like age requirements or people without cirrhosis. Please say a prayer that this works out for me.

They haven't announced a date yet. They think everything will be settled enough to announce in about a month.

Oh Susie, I so hope and pray that this will be your magic bullet, as well as countless others. You have tried so many treatments, some that almost took you away from all of us. No one deserves a cure more than you do, and you are so very brave to try again. You have helped so many people, and even trying to get this damn disease out of your body, you are willing to try a new clinical trial.

and everything else crossed.

You guys are so sweet. Judi every one of us deserves a cure. No one deserves this disease. Erin it was great talking to you as well. Tiff and Bets, I am sure that eventually they will be able to cure everyone. The big question is just "when?"

Susie,
Thanks for the good news! This is even great for some of us afraid to do current treatment. I'm curious if there will be the same depression/psychotic problems with this 'blend' of meds. That's the big hurtle for me. Good luck getting in!!!!!
Hugs

.... WOW! ......
I am sooo hoping that you become Guinea Susie -- and that this treatment is the Wonderful Wun we've been hoping for!!
Hmmm.... I've been "involved" in Hepatitis C since 1998 (diagnosed then).. and it seems they always say "Something new will be coming out in about 5 years"...
Maybe we're finally getting to the "5 years" part!! (It's kind of like 'football time'. You know, when there's '2 minutes left' and it takes 20 minutes or more to finish those 2 minutes.. lol)
Fingers, toes, knees, eyes - all crossed!! I hope it works for you, and I hope it works for us all!!
Love, sus

Oh Suzie, this is good news. Good news for you and for all others hoping to conquer this virus.
I have not been around for a while, my mum's altzheimers has worsened and my time is taken up with work, home, visiting my mum in the secure home she's in and making sure my Dad is Ok as well.
Still waiting for a cure, I battled with alcohol earlier this year while all the stuff with mum was going on, but all is under comtrol now.
Now I'm going to catch up with the posts. All the best to you.

Hello, beanup. I am so sorry to hear that your mom is not doing well, but your are such a good daughter your parents. It must be so hard to see your mom losing ground, and how devastating for your dad and all of you.
Stress does such terrible things, and it is difficult to even be able to cope with one of the things that you are handling. You are a very strong woman, and we all may trip and fall sometimes. Life can be so disappointing, and having Hep C is such a draining disease. I am sending a gentle hug to you , and you know that we are here to support you.
Best regards
Judi
