For weeks now, I have been trying to ignore a burning tongue sensation...it's like what happens if you eat too many fresh cherry tomatoes from the garden...but I have it all the time. It is red, sore, and very tender. No whitish coating on it, so it does not appear to be thrush. Any ideas?

watch out for the hot peppers the are putting in every thing now. I think if you take some milk it will help.

Betsy, Mark is having that problem to the point he is barely eating any thing, They prescribed magic mouthwash, it a combination of lidocaine viscous, benedryl, Maalox, and may have something else in. So far his mouth is still burning, but he does eat a little after using it... We are trying what a friend suggested also (he is on chemo) 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. of baking soda and 1 quart of water. I hope this helps.

Thank you Bob and Theresa! I will try anything! Online sites also suggested rinsing with something called...hmmm, what WAS it called now? NYSTATIN! Not sure if it is over the counter, but will look for that as well.

I guess this is related to the dry mouth...BIOTENE works for dry mouth...maybe it's time for that again?!

Betsy, Mark doesn't have the white coating either. He did say the baking soda and salt was helping temporarily. We are going to go to a different pharmacy (one that mixes this up for the CARTI patients). Nystatin might help also, it might be in the magic mouthwash.

Hey Betsy, How Dare You Not Whine! Everyone on tx needs to vent about how lousy they feel, the miserable side effects, and not being able to live in your own body because it is so bruised and broken right now. The burning mouth is just a horror. Hope that you get some relief soon.

Thanks guys! I think what set me off was when my daughter, almost 21, said, "you are NOT sick!"

So...I sleep 12 hours a day, am a slug and itch all over and have thrush in my mouth....yechhhhh!!! Got the medicine today and will use it as much as possible! It says to swish and swallow???? Yech, who wants to swallow that?

BELIEVE ME YOU WILL LEARN ASAP TO LOVE IT....
